Domestic
We offer two domestic travel insurance plans:
- The Comprehensive plan is the highest level of travel insurance cover we provide while exploring New Zealand.
- The Cancellation Only plan provides cover for non-refundable cancellation costs, should you be forced to cancel or reschedule your trip because of unexpected circumstances.

International
We offer three international travel insurance plans:
- The Essentials plan provides a lower level of travel insurance cover.
- The Comprehensive plan is the highest level of travel insurance cover we provide.
- The Frequent Flyer plan provides cover for those who travel regularly over the course of a year. It covers trips taken throughout a 12 month period, up to a maximum of 60 days per trip.
Key benefits
This is a summary only. For all of these benefits, please make sure you read the policy wording to understand the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions that may apply.
Travel insurance with COVID-19 cover^
We offer limited cover for epidemic and pandemic diseases with our domestic and international plans. That means there’s cover in place if you’re diagnosed with COVID-19 on your trip and need medical assistance or to change your plans.
Cover before you depart
This policy provides cover from unforeseen cancellation costs and loss of deposits the moment your policy is confirmed, so long as you book your trip on the same day. If you take out cover after you’ve booked your trip, the same protection comes into effect after a 7-day waiting period.
Cover for travel disruptions or delays
If your travel is disrupted or delayed because of certain unexpected situations, you may be able to claim up to the maximum benefit limit based on your policy type. This includes additional hotel and travel costs.
Free cover for dependent children
Dependent children travelling with an adult covered under the policy pay no additional charge (for Domestic Cover – that’s up to 18 years, and for International Cover – up to 21 years of age).
Cover for some recreational sports
Some recreational sports are covered under our policies, including leisure skiing and snowboarding, hot air ballooning, parasailing and paragliding, bungee jumping, and white-water rafting in grade 4 rivers (or less).
^The policy still has a general exclusion for epidemics and pandemics, and does not cover disinclination to travel due to fear or change of mind. Cover is only provided if you have not commenced your journey against the New Zealand Government’s advice not to travel. There is no cover for lockdowns, changes in government alert levels, quarantine or mandatory isolation applying to a population or part of a population. Please read the policy wording for full details.
Travel insurance FAQs
You can take out travel insurance at any time before your trip starts, but the sooner the better. Buying your travel insurance as soon as you book your tickets means you’re covered if something disrupts your travel, like a delay or cancellation. If you take out travel insurance after you’ve booked your trip, the same protection comes into effect after a 7-day waiting period.
Sure – the sooner you let us know, the sooner we can start processing your claim. You can make your claim online at any time. If you're overseas and need help right now then call us collect at any time on +64 9 487 0818 or if you're in New Zealand call us on 0800 606 688.
Our travel policies cover some recreational activities like cycling, surfing and paddle boarding, but they don’t cover more specialist activities. Examples of specialist activities include any extreme versions of any sport, or competing in a competitive event, mountaineering, or parachuting. For more detailed information, check your policy wording or call us on 0800 606 688.
Some pre-existing medical conditions are automatically covered under the Comprehensive plan. Cover for Pre-existing Medical Conditions which are not automatically covered may be available for an additional premium following a medical assessment.
Our travel insurance policies are for young and old, including children travelling with adults and unaccompanied minors. Dependent children travelling with an adult on the same policy are covered at no additional cost (for Domestic Cover – that's children up to 18 years of age, and for International Cover – up to 21 years of age). A parent or guardian can buy a policy for their child if they are travelling as an unaccompanied minor. They will be charged the minimum adult premium.
